Terrifying body camera video showed the moment US Marshals arrested an innocent Arizona grandmother under the barrel of a gun after mistaking her for a completely different person. The two-minute video, obtained by ABC15 after six months of hounding the federal government, showed rifle-wielding officers shouting commands at 66-year-old Penny McCarthy.
McCarthy was confused and frightened during the March 5 incident, not even aware at first that she was being pursued by US Marshals. 'We have an arrest warrant,' a federal agent is heard saying on the video. 'For me?' McCarthy responded.
'Yes. For you,' the officer said.
'Who am I?' she asked, seemingly wanting the officers to confirm that she was in fact the person they were looking to apprehend.
Multiple agents then screamed at her and gave her conflicting orders. 'Turn away. Turn around. Turn away. We'll discuss it later. Turn away. You're gonna get hit,' they said.

I always expect little better from the US Marshals. Foolish me.
The police are the standing army the Founding Fathers warned us about.
Just a reminder of how “peace officers” in America have transformed in to the “law Enforcement Officers” of Germany in the 1930’s, but at least they were Honest and Proud to be members of the Gestapo.
The police are the standing army the Founding Fathers warned us about.

Curious. Do you have a better solution? In some manner there
has to be at least a resemblance of control by some agency be
it federal, state, local or some combination. Individual control
isn’t the answer, imo.
Pussies… Afraid to simply walk up and speak to her. They afraid she’s going to run and start jumping fences? Turn and fight them?
Yes there is a better solution. Dress like Adam-12 or Dragnet, not like soldiers. Then start to act like you are the police, not like commandos.
she’s lucky that she wasn’t in a wheel chair, they may have shot her instead.

We see this quite often, at all levels of law information. And it has gotten innocent people shot by the police. One cop yells one command. A second cop yells a different command.
The cop whose command was not obeyed, shoots.
This baffles me. A police team has to have a senior officer. Let him take charge, and issue the commands. How hard can that be?
Is the government issuing warnings that id you engage in misinformation or disinformation you could have this happen to you?
Aside from the US military, ALL, these Federal agencies need to be stripped of weapons and forced to use State or local police to effectuate ALL arrests.
It doesn’t matter how old she is. The person they were looking for was only wanted for parole violations and had not been convicted of violent crimes.
The officers should be severely reprimanded or fired.
LEOs suffer very few repercussions for invading incorrect addresses, arresting the wrong person, or violating Constitutional rights. If there was more personal culpability, they would double-check the information before their assaults on innocent grandmas.
That chirp is disgusting and pure fear and cowardice. Roided out officers with full sleeve tattoos. Out with machine guns screening at a woman in her 60s stabbing there in her Bermuda shots and a tank top. Sure was clearly not a threat.
She couldn’t even see they were cops. Guess it’s too much for two men in sport coats to go knock on her door.
Cowards. All for a parole violator from 25 years ago.
“US Marshals in Oklahoma later said a fingerprinting “glitch” matched McCarthy to Rozak, and a month after the arrest confirmed that McCarthy was not their suspect.
The agency previously told ABC 15 it was continuing to “conduct a thorough review” of the arrest and the officers’ actions.”

That is an important point, and would be a good start. Dress like a soldier, and pretty soon you think you are a soldier.
A second problem is the “qualified immunity” thing. I am 100% in favor of qualified immunity when a police officer makes the wrong decision in good faith while under pressure.
But qualified immunity is also invoked when a police officer casually does something terrible while not under pressure. In those cases, the city usually pays out to the victim. The cop is not criminally charged, but should be.
And then maybe bad cops will begin to show a little restraint.
An excessive amount of force which would have been better handled by a couple of officers with no weapons drawn and simply detain and question. Better yet, do a better job of making sure they have the right individual first!
The lack of professionalism says volumes about leadership in the organization.
Agreed, good point.
The unmarked white van looked like a kidnapping vehicle. This is why you don’t have cops walking around with full sleeve tattoos, beards, tactical vests festooned with grenades and A.R. magazines etc.
When you look and dress that way, you start to act like a thug, or an occupying power. To clean cut men in sport jackets, or two guys looking like Adam 12 knocking on the door and being polite is what America deserves.
And of all the terrorist, illegal aliens, fugitive migrant murderers, cartel members etc. They’re going after her woman who violated parole 25 years ago.
A good idea.
