A Missouri Democratic Senate candidate — and Marine vet — who often smugly touts his gun safety expertise online is being viciously mocked after a journalist was struck by a stray bullet fragment during a campaign event at his haphazard backyard shooting gallery.
Photos from the ill-conceived gathering — which one observer likened to “A Where’s Waldo for ‘things that would get you perma-banned from any state-regulated gun range'” — show Senate hopeful Lucas Kunce firing a scoped AR-style rifle at what appear to be aluminum cans from about 25 feet away.
The event was held at his home in Holt with supporter and former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger and local union members.

Missouri Senate hopeful Lucas Kunce hosted a campaign event at his backyard gun range with local union members and a local reporter, who wound up being struck by a stray bit of flying metal.
As Kunce fired, KSHB 41 reporter Ryan Gamboa was struck in the arm, either by a bullet ricochet or another stray metal fragment.

I don't shoot as a hobby. However, isn't an AK-15 a semiautomatic? Firing it an 15 feet into a steel target. Could have been worse, but ricochet bullets probably have reduced speed.
He didn't have much chance unseating the Republican senator, and this won't help him.
Uh, WOW! So many violations of safety protocols. Lucky they didn’t pop the tanerite on the table.
What a bunch of absolute ‘tards.
Here’s an excellent Tweet that nicely breaks down the stupidity.

Reporter hit by shrapnel by Democrat candidate running against Josh Hawley.
They pointed out / implied that the reporter can sue. Was injured due to negligence.
No visible backstop. All the other lapses can hurt someone with the shooters.
No backstop can hurt someone far away, with no warning.
Maybe there’s a nice steep hill fifty yards out. Or not.
The 5.56 NATO cartridge utilizing the 62 grain M885 or M855A1 bullet fired into a 3/8 inch thick AR550 hardness steel target (typical for most centerfire rifle calibers) is capable of penetrating 12mm, or nearly 1/2 inch into that sort of target at that short range. The minimum recommended safe range for shooting at that target is usually 100 meters.
The wound was probably caused by the spalling and or fragmentation effect of the bullet shattering on impact or as it passed through the target, particularly if it was the 55 grain jacketed bullet of the M193 5.56 cartridge.
Better yet, keep know nothing knuckleheads away from firearms, particularly photo op addled politicians!!!
Official explanation: “We were using high power scopes on our rifles to avoid being distracted by the neighbors teenage daughter who was washing her car next door in a bikini. Safety first!”
A fantastic post. Very well done!!!
” Adam Kinzinger and local union members”
Say no more.
The person that owns the property that this “shooting range” was on should have their homeowners insurance canceled. I would not want to take that risk.
Also:
After the reporter was hit, the two supposedly military veterans read a first aid manual first. Then they applied a tourniquet to the wound but didn’t immediately take him to the hospital or urgent care center.
Why not film in at a shooting range? Just wanted everything to look good for the photo op and didn’t realize how reckless they were. Makes this candidate look ridiculous.
Like to know more about this “Marine vet” and his wartime experiences. Recall, the left mocked JD for what they claimed was a cushy job in Iraq, which turned out to be the usual lie.
Meanwhile, only let him near tampon guns.
Tim Walz should have been there with his expertise in how to stop men bleeding.
Total, absolute dorks and dweeb.
At the shooting range...
Thank you. Another egregious safety foul.
This shooting incident must be reported to federal authorities. It is a requirement by law.
