EXCLUSIVE: A right-leaning research group is claiming that the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Biden administration back paid more than $130 million to 1,700 people fired under a Trump-era law that allows for easier accountability for federal employees.
Through Freedom of Information Act filings, the America First Policy Institute will soon release the results of its probe.
Its investigation also found the VA reinstated more than 100 terminated employees who were fired for indiscretions ranging from negligence to sleeping on the job...
The investigation found that of the more than 4,000 terminated employees, more than 1,700 received back pay or compensation.
At that rate, back pay to the entire group of former employees would total $300 million, a statement from AFPI read.
Former Trump VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said the current administration has "let down American veterans and taxpayers" with such actions....
"The [Trump] administration’s implementation of the 2017 law was repeatedly struck down by the courts, putting VA at risk of having to rehire individuals who committed patient abuse, harassment, and criminal activity ...The law Trump signed, authored by Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., was the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act — meant to do what its title laid out.

Where is congress? Their job is government oversight. They control government funding. I guess expecting them to do their jobs is too much to ask. Bunch of overpaid delinquents.
I bet they haven’t rehired those who wouldn’t be human guinea pigs for big pharma.
The VA is headed by Denis McDonough who was Obama’s Chief of Staff among many other positions. Neither Obama or McDonough have ever been in the military. McDonough was brought in by Biden to woke-ize the VA. American vets last is his motto.
I think that this is the dem’s latest ploy to “buy” election votes. That much money divided by that number of re-instatements might swing a few close races.
It was until JFK issued an executive order to allow Federal Employees to unionize.
All it would take to make illegal again would be another executive order cancelling Kennedy's
I would bet that congress would act real quick to pass a bill making it legal again.
I didn’t know this thank you. Does it affect law enforcement unions?
Only effects Federal employee.
IIRC the JFK unionization EO was codified in 1970s
Did not know that
Do you have any idea the name of that law.
Guessing it was Carter that signed it
There are many good people working for the VA. And there are many workers there who are freeloaders who get paid for doing very little. A person with a clear conscience would leave such a job, but when they got the job to begin with just for government job security and to wait for the pension, there is no clear conscience.
So they can back pay fired employees, but they can’t approve VA disabilities and back pay those folks. Ok, gotcha.
I’m sure that I saw a huge improvement in the VA after those firings, the VA started returning calls and seemed more engaged and interested in its customers.
While the employees at the VA are almost always nice and seem professional when you are interacting with them there doesn’t seem to be much of a relationship beyond the conversations, I’m amazed at how over and over during the decades, I seem to be starting from scratch with them, the VA is very surface focused, like most government bureaucracies.
And instead of a lollipop they give each vet a big jar of Ibuprofen for everything.
I forget the law’s name. i’d thought, like you, that an EO could undo JFK’s EO and end government unions until I saw a reference to the codification some months ago. Not sure if it was under Carter or Ford.
