I don’t agree with the “anointer” narrative. If the primary is over, then the VP is the nominee. You don’t get to do a do-over because you don’t like the person. If the presidential candidate bows out, then the VP is the person. The only anointing was when Biden picked her. Just the same as every other president/candidate has done.

That’s how the DNC operates. Analogous smoke filled room op was done to A) anoint Humphrey at the ‘64 convention and B) hand him the nomination at the ‘68 convention. I remember his crappy voice doing some kind of PR during the cartoon hours on Saturdays, btw.
The primary was not over: the convention had not yet occurred. The issue should have been put to the vote at the convention and the state delegates would have hammered out who the nominee would be.
