Orders for manufactured goods dropped 0.2 percent in August, following a notable increase the previous month, as reported by the Commerce Department on Thursday. This decline marks the third decrease in orders within the last four months, signaling ongoing difficulties within the manufacturing sector.
Economists had predicted that orders would remain unchanged in August, reflecting a cautious outlook amid a mixed economic environment. The data revealed that orders for durable goods were adjusted to show no change for the month, a significant shift from July’s remarkable gain of 9.8 percent. This revision was a downgrade from an earlier estimate suggesting a modest increase of 0.1 percent.
While defense-related orders have contributed positively to factory activity this year, the overall picture remains concerning. When excluding defense goods, total orders fell by 0.4 percent in August, indicating the fragility of the broader manufacturing landscape.

Gee, factor orders dropping which surely must indicate that more people are being hired, right?? Everyone knows companies look at their order books and hire more people because they are getting fewer orders. Sum ting wong with the labor hiring numbers I bet.
The Feds not long ago admitted they had overestimated jobs being created by 800,000, which is exactly what is happening now, by the time this number is revised downward the election will be over and no one will care
Oh boy! Factories are polluting less, workers are driving less, families are buying less! We are saving the planet! Dear did the Yugo get out of the body shop yet? I need the Yugo to go drop off all our mail in ballotssssssssssss…….
This article is obsessing over nothing.
I can attest to this-—we sell to chemical, food and plastic manufacturers and the entire industry is DEAD!!! They’re not expanding, they’re repairing equipment instead of buying new or used. I’ve been here 38 years and, by far, this is the worst I have ever seen it. 2 customer calls in about a week-—we used average hundreds per week....it’s worse than the article depicts.
August? Braking news.
Don’t worry about that, jobs are up. Yeah.
It’s similar the government reporting inflation numbers that don’t include food and gasoline two things people can’t get along without
Every single government economic number is fake. The contraction was probably ten times that.
What was interesting was how they faked the growth numbers when Trump was president, probably cutting them in half.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS UNDER THE DEMS HAVE BEEN FALSE FOREVER.
Factory Orders Decline Again
Shades of 1929 growing stock market yoyoing.
Don’t worry, we’ll be zapping up all those Chibese electric vehicles from Mexico right after the election, yay!
