I’ve had friends who served in Vietnam, and were still terrified of going across a broad street, because their sympathetic nervous system is stuck on battle mode, and they feel exposed.

Unfortunately, my son has a similar problem without having been in battle (he’s disqualified from serving), and these stupid missile and drone attacks are not helpful.

Myself, I just shake it all off. My fear button seems to be broken. I hear the same explosions, and I’m all Leonard Nimoy (”fascinating”). But others are highly sensitive. So Shish Kaibobi’s death is better than he deserved for frightening so many people. But he’s gone anyway.
