I HATE THIS STORY. But what it demonstrates is the fragility of our maritime logistics system to support the fleet.
With just 14 fleet oilers, 2 Supply class fast combat stores ships and 12 dry cargo/ammo ships, we don't have much depth in the fleet to support multiple strike group deployments, routine operations and training. The 3 Lewis class oilers have not completed or past post-delivery acceptance.

That’s a relief (because it is just the kind of pathetic thing our modern military might actually do)
We know that GPS signals are getting interfered with in Ukraine - might be something for our ship captains and helmspeople to keep in mind.
I posted a thread the week before last about that atrocious incident where a Chief Petty Officer had an Starlink system illegally installed, then when it was investigated, lied OPENLY to her Captain multiple times about it.
I just went back and read that thread for the first time (not my usual practice if I start a thread) but a lot went down in the world since then, and when I remembered I had posted that thread and re-examined it, there were people who posted sarcastic responses in it, and I had to concede part of that was my responsibility.
It is undoubtedly, in this case, DEI or more accurately in military terms, DIE which is going to be the root cause.
Resources are indeed a factor, as is piss poor planning. And yes, ships have been running aground as long as there have been ships on the sea. The author of the X post “gCaptain” is being moderate in the initial response by acknowledging that point)
But we are going to undoubtedly find out (though we will have to “read between the lines” to get to the heart of it) that the grounding is going to come down to a lack or inadequacy of training. Every single second spent on DIE training, testing, and indoctrination (and there is a lot of it) is a second taken away from warfighting, damage control, or in this case...ship handling.
MIC contractor Cha-ching!
That has always been the case, but they are working on being able to reload the VLS at sea.
The American DEI navy is the Keystone Cops of our time. Pathetic.
Which is a worse statement on military readiness?
A missile blowing up (Satan) or a critical support ship becoming disabled (ran aground) due to utter institutional incompetence?
Just sayin’…
Lisa Franchetti, under the Biden-Harris regime, is the female in supposed 'buck stops here" charge. Anchors away, my'lads,
Democrats. Named a ship after Harvey Milk years ago. Anyone recall what happened at the latest DEI, LGBT+ Navy conference?
It's across the board in government. Look at our secret service, a completely disorganized and inept agency thanks to DEI.
At Naval Academy class reunions, I imagine those running oil tankers are off in the corners alone with their drinks.
Cloward-Piven in action.
Oil is everything.
That was the Enterprise at Alameda
. I saw the Eisenhower get stuck in a similar situation in Norfolk. It was extremely windy that day though and the ship was blown off course and out of the channel.
Comment on gCaptain thread:
"So, while we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel just to keep our fleets underway, the Chinese are building, growing, threatening. Some people in DC needs a smack in the head with a 2x4 to get their attention."

Supporting a strike group has got to be like supporting any other combat outfit in that the support is a job unto itself. One would think a task force would have more than one oiler along with the other types of support ships.
Slightly off topic is watching the cavalry shows on TV. There is a long column of mounted soldiers heading towards the Confederates or Indians. And not one chuck wagon, medical wagon or supply wagon.
Or there’s a bunch of guys with horses in the desert with just one canteen of water a piece. The movie shows them rationing that water swallow by swallow and they get two or three days out of it. What about the horses?
“..Some people in DC needs a smack in the head with a 2x4 to get their attention...”
They’d just cry “racist!!’
I remembered the story and rechecked it too. “she and more than a dozen chiefs”, Geez, were they all involved? These were DEI chiefs who supposedly run the ship.
What the heck happens when the Houthis (Russians) get a lucky hit that requires damage and fire control? Who is responsible for ensuring the crews are trained and qualified? Who? The stupid fat DEI chief who is watching As the World Turns in her bunk.
Yes. Every second spent even “thinking about” DIE and racial politics takes time away from Training. And sleep. And maintenance. And practice. And attention to detail. And execution. And decisions.
A merchant ship ran into a US Navy cruiser one night. Why? Well, in part, the CIC officer had gotten into a fight with the OOD, and the two were not talking to each other.
You write, “Government planning planning for you.”
It should say, “Pentagon planning, planning for you.” Let’s put the blame where it truly belongs.
