“That’s how it was possible to control who was hit and who wasn’t,” an unnamed foreign security source told the TV station. The attackers reportedly ensured that only the person carrying the pager was harmed, sparing civilians who may have been nearby at the time of the blasts.”

This doesn’t seem reasonable.

Even if it’s disinformation, it’s smart.

They’ll suspect ANY electronics comm devices going forward.

It doesnt seem reasonable, no. It would require having real-time eyes on thousands of targeted people, in order to avoid the random fruit sellers, etc.

Can you build GPS into the pager? They would have had to tie into a video at the location of each pager.

“This doesn’t seem reasonable.”

I agree, they’re messing with their minds - no practical way to simultaneously monitor that many people.

It’s more likely that they sized the charges to minimize collateral damage, even at the cost of most of them surviving (but having something to tell Allah about in the afterlife). It’s also possible that some of charges were of different explosive power, so that key people could get a somewhat larger ‘experience’.

I agree, but Israel would have had to have some fail safe built in. Imagine the calamity if one of these went off on a commercial airline.

I agree. I don't deny Israel the right to pursue its enemies in such a way, but this particular claim seems to be nonsense, and probably a PR response to the "terrorism" accusation in western and pro-arab media.

Pagers do ping a network, but have no way to show user or data profiles as a cell phone might. Its ridiculous to think Israel could control who else was near the pager when it detonated.

It’s a much saner version of war.

Rather than killing an enemy by bombing a city or a building - the individual enemy is the only person targeted. It’s like our ‘smart weapons’ but brought down to the level of ‘individual enemy soldier’. It’s brilliant. Sane. And a step in the direction of saner wars.

It’s also the exact opposite of what Hezbollah did in the original attack that caused this war to start. Hezbollah targeted civilians, children, old people, women and unarmed men. They inflicted the most damage they could on innocents. They exemplified the evil or war - the bottom of the barrel on how civilized people wage war.

Hats off to Israel and to Netanyahu... for moving war into a more civilized style. And shame on Hezbollah - lowlife scum of the earth for reminding us how evil cultures can be...

.

This doesn’t seem reasonable

It does and it doesn’t.

1. It is NOT reasonable to “have eyes” on thousands of pagers , as in video eyes.

But it IS reasonable to know where they were via GPS and wireless info.

2. It is NOT reasonable to time these detonation over thousands of devices at a specific time to avoid collateral damage.

But is IS reasonable to assume that the devices were designed to explode in a certain direction , like a small shaped charge in order to direct the energy of the blast towards the pager holders face or body as he looked at the pager number.

3. Finally it IS reasonable that these devices are actually a tactical extension of a strategic plan to terrorize their enemies. This is one of the methods of counter insurgency that is difficult to carry out but crucial to defeat guerrilla or insurgents… to make the people who are NOT in Hamas/Hezbollah as active fighters but supporters and shields to FEAR Israel more than Hamas..it is brutal but the only way to completely isolate the guerillas/insurgents and remove logistical and physical concealment.

Now I’d suspect targeted accidents will now remove lawyers, financiers, importer/exporters, technicians, drivers, suppliers and all construction workers/engineers and designers. ALL OF THEM need to tremble in absolute fear that the bad thing MOSSAD or IDF will visit them and their families at home, at work or abroad. There is NO SAFE PLACE. Hahahahahahaha

The math is that even if 20-30 “innocent” women or children die….. over a 20-40 year war that number is miniscule to the thousands of Jewish children and women that will be killed, raped or maimed.
