Last year had the worst decline in credible elections and parliamentary oversight in almost a half-century, driven by government intimidation, foreign interference, disinformation and the misuse of artificial intelligence in campaigns, an organization promoting democracy said Tuesday.
The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, or International IDEA, said election credibility is threatened by turnout dropping and results are increasingly being contested. One in three elections are being disputed in some way, it said.
The organization with 35 member governments said the average percentage of the voting age population who actually cast ballots has declined from 65.2% in 2008 to 55.5% in 2023.
“Elections remain the single best opportunity to end democratic backsliding and turn the tide in democracy’s favor,” said International IDEA’s Secretary-General, Kevin Casas-Zamora. “The success of democracy depends on many things, but it becomes utterly impossible if elections fail.”
The Stockholm-based organization said its Global Report on the State of the Democracy, which measures democratic performance in 158 countries from 1975 till today, found that 47% of countries have experienced a decline in key democratic indicators over the past five years, marking the eighth consecutive year of global democratic backsliding. …

Obviously Trump’s fault.
Based on their website, their definition of "democracy" seems to be something like "revolutionary authoritarianism with a veneer of popular legitimacy:"
"While the science is clear and we know the solutions, the barriers to addressing climate change are primarily political: Our increasingly polarized societies fail to build the necessary consensus, causing our policy responses to remain insufficient, in both scale and speed. The situation requires nothing less than fundamental economic, social, and political transformations and challenges our societies to develop new strategies to address climate change."
Forcing these areas into unwanted pressures placed on an unschooled population, or ignoring the tribal and/or religious ustoms is insane, and we should not be engaged in forcing them into it.
Isolate them, and leave them alone to their backward decadent ways. We are not God and He has not given our nation authority for it. Let Him deal with it, with His own ambassadors of the Saving Gospel, not the "social gospel" touted by the religious innovators of 19th century Western Protestants like Brooke Foss Westcott, Bishop of Durham, one of the authors of a"Christianized" socialistic approach to missionary work.
What’s this “Democracy” of which they speak?
They mean liberalism is in decline.
… The thesis of the state socialist is that no line can be drawn between private and public affairs which the state may not cross at will; that omnipotence of legislation is the first postulate of all just political theory. Applied in a democratic state, such doctrine sounds radical, but not revolutionary. It is only an acceptance of the extremest logical conclusions deducible from democratic principles long ago received as respectable. For it is very clear that in fundamental theory, socialism and democracy are almost, if not quite, one and the same. They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members. Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals. …Woodrow Wilson, by equating democracy with socialism, also saw democracy as revolutionary authoritarianism, whether with any veneer of popular legitimacy or not.

Brooke Foss Westcott, who has also provuded a synthesized Greek text pretending to be the true New Testament Greek Textform, that has brought ruination of the gospewl to most modern versions and the supra-local-church denominations employing them.
(My opinion, that is.)
The AP article mentions only two measurable factors in assessing the global state of democracy: participation in elections, and percentage of elections in which the opposition challenged the result.
Neither of these factors measures the legitimacy of elections. They both measure the appearance of legitimacy of elections.
The new Wilsonians understand the importance of the veneer of popular legitimacy, which is why they include it in their rebranding of “democracy.”

Obviously.
I have to believe where democracy dies socialism moves in.
Democracy is the vehicle used to bring socialism.

Indeed, the “New Democracy” is something akin to Plato’s Republic, where enlightened Leftists keep everyone else in line with the “noble lie” that we live in a real democracy.
I wondered where the democrats democracy spew true path went a part of the one world government with a mask.
