‘Hillbilly Elegy’ Director Ron Howard Turns on JD Vance: ‘Surprised and Disappointed’

15 Ron Howard made JD Vance’s bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy into a major Hollywood movie four years ago. Now the filmmaker has publicly turned on the GOP vice presidential candidate, saying he is “surprised and disappointed” by the “rhetoric that I’m reading and hearing.”

At the Toronto Film Festival to promote his latest movie Eden, Ron Howard faced questions about JD Vance from multiple news outlets, some of which clearly had an ax to grind against Vance.

Ron has so much talent and so little brains. Ron didn't whine about the paycheck he received from directing Vance's movie.

IIRC, his brother Clint is a conservative.

Howard (and Griffith when he was alive) naturally had a vested interest in seeing nothing tarnished the income generating potential from the AGS.

Problem is, the AGS was filmed partly when segregation was enforced by law and by tradition. There were minorities in the AGS but not often in speaking roles.

Today the thought police could seriously damage the AGS legacy, and income generation, by whispering “racism.”

Howard must continuously keep his racism insurance policy premium paid up by criticizing Republicans, and earlier, by making Obama commercials. Otherwise, his legacy goes the way of Disney's Song of the South.
