Venezuelan security forces surround Argentine embassy after opposition members take refuge inside

Venezuelan security forces surrounded the Argentine embassy in the capital Caracas on Friday after two opposition members took refuge inside, according to posts by the opposition duo on social media.

The pair joined four other Venezuelan opposition figures who have taken refuge in the embassy this year.

One of the men, Pedro Urruchurtu, the international coordinator for opposition leader María Corina Machado, wrote on X that there were patrols of hooded and armed officials surrounding the diplomatic building.

The other, former deputy Omar González, also posted on X, writing: “They cut off the electricity service to the Argentine embassy in Caracas, which is currently besieged by agents of the Sebin (Bolivarian National Intelligence Service) and other state security bodies.”

A statement issued by Vente Venezuela, a movement led by Machado, described the situation as a “siege.”

“Patrols with regime agents continue to arrive at the headquarters of the Argentine embassy in Caracas. We hold Nicolás Maduro responsible for this siege against our leaders who are taking refuge in the embassy,” the statement said.

Pray for Venezuela! The latest from Caracas Chronicles on X: Brazil says it’s “surprised” of the revocation but that it will continue -following the Vienna Convention- to have custody of the Embassy and defend Argentina’s interests until its government indicates another custodian State that is acceptable for the Venezuelan government.

What kind of government would arrest the opposition? You’ll never see that in the US. Oh wait... never mind.

This should have preceded the above comment:
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry announced that it immediately revoked the approval granted to Brazil to “exercise representation” of Argentina’s interests in Venezuela and custody of its Embassy in Caracas, where María Corina Machado’s close team is sheltered.

They need to get a mob of 100,000 or so and head up to Maduro’s place.

Alas currently that would mean a mob of 100k unarmed targets. Argentina needs to manufacture a bunch of
FP-45 Liberator
and sell and deliver them to the VZ opposition. Then let some competent opposition members use them to liberate better weapons from less competent Maduro forces. Of which, like in most dictatorships, there are many.

Just goes to show. The opposition wins big, yet the old regime won’t let go of power and tries to eliminate everyone who stands against them. Gee, where have I seen that happen before?

Passive resistance was always my first choice for revolution.
Knowing about the protest in China and their use of biological weapons to quell the resistance I would have to think passive resistance is useless

“I would have to think passive resistance is useless”

No government in the world would last a month if everyone just stopped going to work though.

Argentina has a pretty damn strong Navy for a South American country... They certainly pushed the UK around quite a bit 40 years ago or so... I’d be glad to see if the Argentine Republic decided to stand up for what is right and take out Maduro. I’m sure Brazil would be pretty fine with it right now too... That could be the best thing for South America, if instead of the US doing it, ABC did it.

How many to create this problem for the government?
How many will it take to rouse the rabble...so to speak?

China’s dissidents seemed to be infected with covid

It used to be that us Gringos piously and smugly smirked at the banana republics of the world with regard to their never ending corruption and fraudulent elections. Not any more. The third world dictatorships are looking awfully familiar to where we find ourselves and no one is smirking anymore. Rather we are looking in horror at these banana republic situations as a harbinger of where we are headed. The sad question is who in the world is left with any integrity to speak with authority against such raw tyranny?
