a few years ago I was driving and mentioned to my passenger I hadn’t been to Cracker Barrel in a long time.
Two hours later, I had CB ads showing up on my phone.
Yes, they listen..
Not my phone.
I wiped out Android and installed Linux. You people who refuse to go-woke-go-broke the big tech companies are making a terrible future for yourselves.
P
Do you mind me asking what Distro and version? I am about to do that with a cell capable tablet...
This isn’t news, we have known about this spying for years now. You would have to be pretty dang dense not to notice the coincidences between what you talk about and what later pops up on your phone.
An experiment...
Google, Bing I’m thinking of having fish for dinner.
What are your recommendations?
Said into speaker.
Almost 1300 hrs.
5.56mm
They absolutely are. I was talking to somebody about vacuuming their rug in the very next day and started popping up on my TV about vacuum cleaners.
Don’t know who, don’t know how, but yes, someone’s on to me. I have said, for example, to a buddy, “Buy a Ford” and right away I’ll get Ford ads. Also, advertisers catch my searches on FB marketplace, hp, walmart, costco, you name it; they all know. Problem is I look up lots of stuff for elderly neighbors who don’t generally shop online themselves, so I also get their interests on my phone. The scariest snoop is Temu. They sure do know what I like in interior design, and I don’t even recall shopping for home furniture, I already have everything worth having (or if I don’t I can just take it from Mom). I have never shopped at Temu but their ads are absolute mind readers.
I already figured that out by seeing the ads that appear and when they appear.
“Meta does not use your phone’s microphone for ads and we’ve been public about this for years,” a Meta spokesperson told The Post”
Note they said “for ads”. Why not just say we do not use your microphone unless you are using the app at that moment?
Breaking news in the Reader’s Digest!
Doesn’t that severely limit what apps you can use?
lolololololol
I don’t care, I’m not a conspiracy kook
Free money! Free money! Send me free money right now beotches!
I want it all and I want it now
This is why I don’t use FB anymore and dropped Google for DuckduckGo. Also, read your gmail license. They not only and open and read your emails, they can sell the content in those emails.
How did you do that?
Are there only specific phones where it is possible?
Is it standard Linux, or customized for phones?
:^D - I doubt they are listening on my desk phone {I am too dumb to have a smart phone} . . . but if they are listening, they are getting info on a lot of medical visits and medical insurance coverage.
Come to think of it, some of the phish calls lately do seem to be following my medical needs. ? ? ? ? ? !:^0
I remember discussing plantar fasciitis with other runners (and my phone nearby). Next thing you know, that evening, my FB feed was full of ads for special socks, foot therapy, etc.
It gets weirder. I just checked my “web activity” on my phone’s settings>google account. I don’t recognize ANY of it. It would seem to belong to a black teenager with piercings and very bad taste in music. :(
Nowhere I’ve been is there!
