A new TikTok trend has people posting their attempts to exploit a “glitch” in Chase bank ATMs that offers “infinite free money” — but quickly learning that a bank and its money are not so easily parted.
Experts say the “glitch” videos look an awful lot like check fraud — one of the oldest scams in the book.
Videos urging customers at the bank to take advantage of the “glitch” quickly took off online, prompting people to deposit fake checks for large sums of money. The glitch would credit some of the sham deposits to the customers’ accounts before the checks cleared.
One video showed people lined up outside of Chase locations in New York City, allegedly looking to take advantage of the “viral glitch to get free money,” one person wrote on X.
But, Chase quickly fixed the bug, and is now clawing back any money doled out to people who didn’t deserve it.

Chase has fixed the issue. Those who committed check fraud have negative balances and holds on their accounts.
They were being crooked. Check fraud, prob jail and fees. Stupid people.
Maybe it’s called Chase for a reason.
They typically make only $100 immediately available. Some of these people must have deposited a lot of fake checks.
Don’t play silly games with banks. I suspect there is an equivalent to a No Fly List banks circulate to warn other banks about crooked, shady customers. I sure would not want to be on any such list. Tik Tok can act like a Pied Piper to those gullible and dim.
Are people able to send real time alerts about these things on Tikctoc?
Greed plain and simple.
Writing a fraudulent check to your own bank account?
Brilliant criminals strike again!
It’s not a glitch, it’s a convenience that banks offer to their honest customers allowing them access to their legit funds faster.
Now we’ll have to wait until a check fully clears (which could take 3-4 days) before being able to access those funds.
This is the difference between living in the society where people are mostly honest and follow basic moral principles of not stealing, and living in the society where such assumptions cannot be made.
Infinite free money? Hey that’s the governments job or lie!
omg.
I saw one guy was panicking because he was overdrawn by almost $40k. The lines of people in front of the Chase banks were crazy! How did they think they would get away with this????
This is why we can’t have nice things.
I saw mention of this glitch this morning and googled it, thinking it was a joke.
When I saw what it was, I knew these folks were in for a bad time. The banks know who deposited the bad checks and took out the funds. They will attempt to recoup whatever they can.
This is why when you hear about ATMs giving out 20s instead of 5s, you hear about the “honest” depositors giving the money back to the bank. Hell, they know the bank will just deduct the difference!
In the early 2000s I was at McCormick convention center in Chicago.
I was buying a cup of coffee at the McDonalds and didnt have cash so used my chase debit card to pay.
There was a creepy guy staring at me and I noticed him and partially blocked him from seeing waht I was typing on the keypad. It was then I realized he passed vwery close in back of me.
I took my coffee and went up the escalator and my phone started getting Chase alerts deposits were being made on my account $2000 at a time for a total of $14000
Panicked, I called Chase. I got ahold of their internal fraud dept and spoke with an actual detective.
She calmed me down and told me every cent would be back in my account within 4 hours.
She also told me she had their licensce plates at multiple grocery stores they made the withdrawl within minutes after scanning my card.
They had teams on standby.
Before the call was finished she told me they apprehended one gang and she was confident shed have them all before end of business day.
Four hours later the money was back in my account.
Chase fraud is no joke.
Im a loyal Chaa se customer 40 years and will never leave them Bank of America and Wells Fargo are absolute crap banks for people who dont understand money. Chase is serious and understands its the customers money. They NEVER tell me No.
The problem is that they don’t think. Oh, they have thoughts for sure, but they don’t think.
For those who don't see the humor, the above is a joke about lawyers.
That, I wouldn’t know. I rarely Tik or Tok unless directed there by someone in this site. Would not surprise me if DMs were delayed, due to heavy traffic.
Yes, we have become a low trust society. The America of our fathers’ and grandfathers’ generations was a high trust society.
TikTokers tried to exploit a Chase bank ‘glitch’ — and learned it came at a huge cost
