Israel's Business Forum joined the Hostage Family Forum call to protest as Israelis blocked junctions around the country. The Histadrut chairman, Arnon Bar David, Israel's main labor organization, called for a total shutdown of the country's economy on Monday starting at 6 a.m., and Israel's airport followed shortly after.
Israelis gathered at junctions and blocked intersections around the country Sunday morning, calling for a hostage deal after reports came out that the bodies of six hostages had been retrieved from Gaza.
Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Ori Danino were alive in captivity for nearly 11 months before being killed in captivity by Hamas soon before IDF forces reached their location, according to an IDF initial assessment.
The Hostage Family Forum called on Israelis to take to the streets and demand a hostage deal now. Protests were planned for Sunday evening at dozens of locations around the country.
The forum also called on local government, union heads, and large companies to shut down Israel's economy Monday as part of a call for a deal and as a sign of unity with the families. Additionally, the forum called on the head of the Histadrut labor federation to call for a general strike.
"The national leadership has abandoned the hostages, and it is the time of social, economic, and local leadership to stand by the hostage families, by the public, and by the values of solidarity and mutual responsibility," said the forum.
The labor federation is considering possible steps and will announce its decision today, Ynet reported.
Opposition head Yair Lapid also called on the labor federation, employers, and local authorities to strike. "They were alive. Netanyahu and the cabinet of death decided not to save them," he said in a call to shut down the economy.

What does a ‘hostage deal’ buy them?
You deal with Hamas and it NEVER ends. The solution is to completely clear Gaza of all himan life for this. Let THEM pay the price.
More death. The only solution is to rid the world of Hamas.
That the Israeli Left is making political hay out of this horror is disgusting. The leftists seem to have no bottom to their depravity.
This can (probably will) get Real Ugly, Real Fast...
So they’re blaming the Israeli government for the murder of the hostages by Hamas?
leave hamas intact with a chance to rebuild
and there will be more massacres and hostages
Israel deserves it for allowing American government-controlled NGOs to operate on their soil.
Retirement dittos. I sit around and do nothing but watch the mutual funds grow.
Let the Sunni and Shia kill each other as long as the oil flows. Israel will not go away but will keep busy with our enemies until our own oil flows and the funds get even bigger. The rag heads will then lose out.
I don’t like the constant state of war but geography protects us so far and I say keep it over there with more aid to Israel. Ukraine? Not worth it.
These are exactly the same increasingly violent Leftists that have been blocking traffic and rioting since late 2022 when Netanyahu won the election with a coalition. They refuse to accept their minority status in Israeli elections. Hostages are just tools to them.
So it's the family members of hostages making and leading these demands and protests. History has taught then nothing when it comes to so called ‘deals’ with Hamas/Iran.
These are bloodthirsty psychpathic Islamists. You can’t make a “hostage deal” with such people. And everyone knows this!
Ok, Hamas has a deal for you.
You give us tons of money, leave Gaza and we will only kill half the hostages next time we crash through your borders and kill you.
Oh, and please cease to exist.
So, is it a deal?
It might be easier to blow up a third of Iran’s oil fields - then if the hostages still aren’t released. bomb another third.
First, we have to get Iran’s attention. Then we can talk.
No worse than the US left (Harris to be exact) making hay about Trump visiting Arlington to solace the 13 families who lost a loved one in Afghanistan during the pullout. Lives that were never even recognized by Biden or Harris.
The left has no regard for life.
Wise advice. Israel needs to be self-sufficient like France so they won't be dependent on the U.S. for their defense.
Time to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
Ike was right. The MIC is a problem.
The Jerusalem Post makes it sound like it's all Israelis, and not just some protestors.
Why do I think that this is BS?
+1 Well put
Terrorism kept them alive only until close to being rescued. Look at the division now in Israel but Hamas killed them not Israel.
