A new Netflix documentary retells the extraordinary story of Apollo 13, the spacecraft that almost never returned from its voyage to the Moon. It focuses more on the way the families of the three astronauts handled the nail-biting tension of their journey home.

I took my grandson along and found it strangely moving, in particular the recording of the speech by John F Kennedy in 1962 which began the adventure. On a visit to Rice University in Houston, Texas, he pledged that America would put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade. “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy, but because they are hard ... We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people.”

But listening to Sir Keir Starmer delivering his much-trailed speech in the Downing Street garden was once again to be reminded of the Lilliputian nature of the modern political leader. What was the point? He had set out the Government’s programme in the King’s Speech last month, so why does he not just get on and do it?
Sir Keir made the fatuous claim that his Government had done more in seven weeks than the last administration did in seven years. But it hasn’t actually achieved anything – and why would it in such a short space of time? Just setting up bodies like Great British Railways does not make the trains run on time.
One of the greatest reasons for a breakdown in trust between the public and its political leaders is a failure to make good on promises made.

Sounds just like every other tin pot dictator, with his lies.
He’s worthless but so is the author who went on about a Netflix Apollo moon landing documentary, before getting to the point.

You got that reich!
The Apollo 13 astronauts never landed on the moon.
The article was also going on about the Kennedy speech announcing the moon landing goal.
I just hate articles that can’t get to the point.
Starmer is an unreformed Marxist / Trotskyist. It’s obvious with even a general look at his background
Does the Telegraph, that old bastion of British conservatism, even matter any more? That is a fundamentally crazy, progressive country, and they like Stamer. End of story.
It would have to be “person on the moon” today.
UK bump for later....
Agree! Even with the "snips," took far too long to get to the point!
