Sophistry. I read those books in college too about sacrificing because the interest was to pass on your genetic identity even if the individual did not profit. They fascinated me at the time but now I see that concept as a slight of hand. If we sacrifice for another, for a Country or for an ideal the fact that we gain satisfaction for doing the right thing (in our mind & heart) does not turn the action into self interest.
