Chicago’s run of peaceful rallies outside the Democratic National Convention came to an end Tuesday night when a group of protesters marched into a line of police, setting off a violent scrum on Madison Street outside one of the city’s major commuter rail stations.
The protesters walked directly into a large group of police officials, four officers deep, around 7:30 p.m. The officers began to push them the other way and yelled, “Move back, move back.” Scuffles began to break out, and officers wearing helmets moved into the crowd.
Video showed officers overwhelming some of the protesters, pushing them to the ground in an effort to secure the chaotic scene. Afterward, the demonstrators began to move east on Madison toward Canal Street, where hundreds of additional officers were waiting.
A police supervisor eventually declared it an “unlawful assembly.”

Clash? No murders?
The DNC is working for the Clampdown.
It’s all so joyful!
Most of the DNC isn’t even happening downtown, it’s at the United Center (West Side) or McCormick Place (South Side). Protesters would get little exposure and no civic disruption protesting there, so they are protesting downtown, randomly, outside a train station that has nothing to do with the DNC, since at least then they can annoy commuters.
It’s a lost cause explaining things like this to a certain crowd of people. They keep talking about “military tribunals” even though those have been ruled unlawful for civilians for over 150 years now.
The most violence that I’ve seen this week is when some pipsqueak thug spit on a big burly bus driver and we had an old fashioned righteous beat down.
It was heartwarming until you found out the one whose actions were justified was the one who got arrested.
No mention of billy clubs nor water cannons? I like water cannons.
