I read “1000’s” as “one thousand is”.

I’m generally averse to writing “thousands” as “1000s” or suchlike anyhow.

Same here. The wife drives me nuts. She constantly substitutes the letter O for a zero on ordering stuff off the computer or talking to some customer service person some where and it confuses an on-line ordering system or someone on the other other end of the phone.
