A Texas Monthly article published in 2008 took Reynolds, the incumbent district attorney, to task for a relatively low prosecution rate for cases of drug trafficking, theft, assault and robbery brought to his office by law enforcement.
More than a decade ago, he faced scrutiny for letting a sex abuse case at a state-run school languish. It was ultimately taken over by the attorney general at the time, Greg Abbott, who is now the governor.
After that scandal, Reynolds faced an opponent in the Democratic primary and won. He has not been opposed since.

Sometimes there is no choice for a prosecutor to not prosecute a case.
In Texas hating Trump and fighting oil companies is a losing strategy. This is a typical GOP bad decision.
I don’t have an issue with a DA fighting big oil.
Some of these companies have predatory practices.
Back in 2007/2008, the landmen were coming through purchasing mineral rights in the Barnett Shale. I met with an elderly woman who had 2 acres on top on the sweet spot in the shale. She was a widow with a house that was crumbling around her. They told her $500 was a great deal and pressured her into signing a garbage 2-page producer 88 lease.
That was a total scam.
I negotiated an 18 page lease and over $26,000 per acre. I lived just 1.5 miles down the road.
Talk to people in East Texas. Some of them signed such convoluted leases that they get billed every month for their share of the production costs and make no profit. Happened to my friend Terry’s family.
There Will Be Blood was true to form.
I have no problem with Republicans fighting for people who have been screwed over.
That was the party of Lincoln before it got tied up with the Bush gang.
From the article:
“Stogner, 40, who describes herself as leaning libertarian and supports limited government, admits that she might have seemed an unusual choice to become the Republican standard-bearer in such a conservative area.
“I can’t stand Donald Trump,” she said, ticking off her problems with the Republican presidential nominee and politics in general. “I hate the parties. I think it’s a duopoly run by oligarchs that totally bastardizes what America was built on.””
When Trump came down the gold staircase this Texan thought of him as another loudmouth New York attention whore. I couldn’t stand him. But after reading what he did for NYC and listening to his content, not the delivery, I was hooked.
If the Bush years didn’t teach us the dangers of voting for the polished cookie cutter GOP favorite, nothing will.
The bucking horse may step on your toes, but it’s usually the best ride.

“I hate the parties. I think it’s a duopoly run by oligarchs that totally bastardizes what America was built on.”
She ain’t wrong.
