Canisteo, N.Y. (WHAM)— Steuben County residents are speaking out for the first time after Gov. Kathy Hochul announced emergency cash funding for families over the weekend.
Canisteo residents who spoke with 13WHAM say they were promised funds after damaging floods brought by remnants of Debby hit their town last week. But now, they are discovering they do not qualify.
William Weakland and his neighbor, Kate Bowie, are both staying with relatives after flooding took their homes.
"Everyone that was there was extremely sympathetic, and their promises felt sincere," Weakland said. "We got out the front door got in the truck and drove through the yard."

And too patriotic. They can spend two billion dollars on a new “Rich Stadium” but “they” (the Demoncrats) can’t help the people of Canisteo. Sickening.
Their combined income exceeded $60,000
That’s a pretty low bar for upstate NY
Does Hochul’s staff think that is “ rich”?
I bet the Gov spends more on hair and makeup staff
We had an AGI of 54K last year. I’m semi retired but run my husband’s small HVAC biz and we have some rental properties mostly being rehabbed. We make too much money to qualify for any “free” insulation through any programs. We’d have to rent to the bottom rung of society that has made endless poor life choices. We won’t do that and would rather pay for everything ourselves.
So if a flood wiped out everything you own, you’d be OK with that income…no need for aid
Any would you want free government hand outs.
So why do you think the government show bail anybody out.
Hochul is less qualified than Kamala, let that sink in.
True but the point is Hochul went on TV and blew her horn about how generous “she” is then said, oh wait.

Govt disaster aid for loss-stricken Americans to get back on their feet, vs Govt aid being handed out to 15 million illegal unvetted invaders walking into our country since Biden Harris?
Hmm, guess we’ll have to think about tyat
Should be neither
Isnt though is it
There’s an update. No insurance, no problem. Thanks to their fellow taxpayers.
