The 51-mile stretch of electrified tracks is also expected to carry bullet trains from the Central Valley to the city

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who helped secure $1.2 billion in federal funds for the roughly $2.4 billion project.

51 miles at $2.4 billion. Not good at math but is that $44 million per mile.

Could have gotten electric locomotives for the push-pull cars instead and saved much more money. This is big public waste.

I was riding CalTrain when the OJ verdict happened. They announced it over the speakers. Many passengers began cheering and celebrating.

51 miles

That would get you almost all the way across the DFW metroplex. (Sunnvale to White Settlement 56.9 mile East to West, per Google. Red Oak to Prosper is only 54 miles South to North.)

Do they have sprinkler systems to clean up after the homeless defecate and urinate in the cars?

Zero emissions, well not so, unless the electric is produced by fairy dust.

A luxury rail line to house homeless and transport them along the 51 mile stretch. It will be glorious.

“$44 million per mile”

Hey, stringing wire is expensive! They had to buy 100 times more copper wire than needed because the thieves kept stealing 99% of the stored wire. (I just made that up)

State run choo-choos are good for you.

51 miles at $2.4 billion. Not good at math but is that $44 million per mile.

They needed special material for the tracks to handle the high speed trains. They had to mine the metal used for the track on the planet Uranus.

The graffiti is being applied to the trains as I type.

Highways are not cheap....a train carries more humans tower mile per hour than a 6-8 lame highway. At five min headways like a metro it’s equal to ten or more lanes.

https://compassinternational.net/order-magnitude-road-highway-costs/

Trains make sense where you have a lot of people going the same way at the same time. Commuters are a perfect group to target. NYC and the NE corridor could not function if there was no metro the traffic which is already grid lock would be biblical. It already takes two hours by car to cover the north south of Manhattan at anytime of day from 5 am till 8pm well over an hour to get through any of the tunnels into or out of NYC same for bridges. The same trip takes 10 to 15 min on the metro and you pop up a few blocks away at most plus no $75
-125 per day parking costs. Bridge tolls are $12+ each and you could cross two or more getting from NJ to The City. Commuting from Balwash or the Hudson cannot be done in under 4 hours at rush hour you can get to Penn or Grand Cent in an hour to 1.5 from the same places.

Well the democrats that got their payoffs think it was a good deal. As a Californian, I demand that any electricity used by this train system be only from 100% solar or wind and not from “polluting” natural gas or coal generated sources. After all isn’t that what the democrats demand of us lowly proletariat?
