Jeep maker Stellantis — one of the Big Three automakers — is set to lay off around 2,450 workers later this year at a discontinued Ram 1500 Classic factory outside of Detroit.
“With the introduction of the new Ram 1500, production of the Ram 1500 Classic at the Warren (Michigan) Truck Assembly Plant will come to an end later this year,” a Stellantis spokesperson wrote to The Hill. “As a result, Stellantis announced today that the plant will move from a two-shift to a one-shift operating pattern in General Assembly.” The company confirmed that layoffs could begin as early as October 8, and that the 2,450 people are likely to be impacted. The company noted that the actual number of impacted employees will likely be lower.

Has nothing to do with that. Ram trucks suck.
Looks like once again the union has priced thousands out of work with their cradle to grave demands, as well as support for politicians who have regulated their jobs away.
Mandate that next time your unable to make ends meet.
rumor is they are about to sell chrysler/dodge/ram to BYD (china)
Dodge/Crysler/Jeep is a fustercluck that long predates Biden…
I don’t follow the automotive industry in America. Is this because they stopped production of a popular pickup truck line? If so, did EV plans have anything to do with it?
I know we have many here who do follow this closely, so I was hoping someone could explain it to me. (I know I could go out and research it, but one of the reasons I come to FR is for the crowdsource angle on information, and I value that)
never trust a company whose name doesn’t mean anything.
that’s one brand that gets bought and sold alot.
You are entitled to your opinion. I have a RAM 1500 with a Hemi Engine and I love it. Had it for 10 years and it runs great.
They take a puny engine and surround it with and heaps of useless sheet metal.
“Ram trucks suck.”
I’ve owned a number of them and wouldn’t have any other truck brand.
That would be beyond the kiss of death.
BYD will sell chinese cars under the chrysler/dodge name.
Just when you thought quality couldn’t get worse. Is about to.
This also explains the ending of the tradesman ram that is built at one of the plants rumored to be for sale.
I asked Bing this "What does the average UAW line worker make?
Bing answer:
"between $17 and $33 per hour"
"The average UAW line worker makes between $17 and $33 per hour, which is about $35,000 to $68,000 a year for a 40-hour workweek2. The average UAW salary as of November 2021 was $25 per hour, or $52,7711."
To me, that is not a lot of money but to you I guess Americans should make 3rd world wages.
Good luck with your union mentality which has been the central cause of jobs being relocated to other countries. Unions are a form of the collective communist mindset. A man’s merit is the value of his wages. Nothing more.
But go ahead and take your little picket signs, go on strike. Just don’t whine to me when jobs are shifted overseas. Put that in your union pipe and smoke it!
one of the best selling trucks evah, or something like it.
Those were the good Hemi engines. A friend of mine has a 2 year old one, first Hemi blew at 7,000 miles. Second engine is knocking.
F you. I am pro US worker and yes some of them are in a union. About 7% are in a union. The other 93% are not. You are fighting against your countrymen and it makes me sick. Your FR handle is so wrong it is almost funny. It should be traitors flame.
Apparently you have me confused with someone that cares what you think!
Out here the serious contractors use gm or Chev. I use a 3500 duramax. Sadly the transmissions break almost right away on the rams, at least for the heavy duties. They never should of let Allison go.
