The native tribes already have a great deal of sovereignty, so I don’t know why she is raising the issue. Does she want to give them more land? Veto power over actions on non-tribal land? In my area, the tribes already have rights that no one else has such as the right to sell fireworks, to sell tax-free cigarettes, and operate full-service casinos.
I was born and raised in Bremerton, and still live here but in the boonies around Centralia. The Natives were also given the right to open stores, and open malls where they can collect sales tax, and keep it as income. Cigarette tax? Booze tax? They stopped the private clubs from allowing smoking, because it cut into Native casino business.
