Can’t just undock it, first Starliner doesn’t have the ability to remotely undock some genius didn’t install the software needed for that so someone currently has to be inside it to trigger the unlocking process and also fly it away because the same mental giant also didn’t put in autonomous navigation. NASA says it will be months until that software is ready and approved for use. So they can’t just dump it. The IDA ring on the Starliner is the active side of the port it must be the one to undock from the passive side which is connected to the ISS PMA module itself latched to the existing 95 stype Russian port the shuttles used. The Russian side has four ports but those only work with probe style ports from the 1960s era Soyuz. The American side has 4 more CBM ports one has a cargo module attached to it sent up last week by SpaceX three other are empty. They could send up a new PMA with a IDA ring on it to turn a CBM into IDA port allowing a third docking port otherwise the Boeing craft is blocking the only other port Dragon can use. Looks like nasa is going to either kick two off Crew 9 and fly them home in Feb when Crew 9 Dragon was gonna come home anyway or put the second row of seats into that Dragon and fly them home with the four already scheduled after they do their mission either way they have to custom build remotely space suits that interface with Dragon since NASA suits don’t work with Dragon seats or oxygen plugs. <<<this should be a standardized design requirement but we are talking about dotgov here. Looks like they are stuck until Crew 9 comes home enjoy the time in space y’all gonna be there a hot min.
