NZ is like the California of the World. It is very pretty geographically with decent weather. And it's where all the rich people are going in case of a nuclear war or other calamity.
Because of this, the government can do whatever the heck it wants because if you want to live in paradise then you have to pay the price.

Because of this, the NZ government can/could/ will do whatever the heck it wants you to do! Because if you want to live in their paradise, then you have to pay the price and obey their rules.
They have been that way since WWII ended.
If you wanted to live there, unless you were a super elite, you had to have a skill/trade that would keep you employed and the locals.
