The Biden administration will reportedly phase out the use of plastic cutlery in all federal departments to combat “climate change.”
The administration announced the plan in July as part of its “Mobilizing Federal Action on Plastic Pollution: Progress, Principles, and Priorities,” per the New York Post.
“The President is committed to taking ambitious actions… to end plastic pollution and is calling upon the global community to do the same, with the goal to reduce the global production and consumption of virgin plastics,” the White House said.
The White House said that it will eliminate single-use plastics like “plastic and polystyrene food and beverage containers, bottles, straws, cups, cutlery and disposable plastic bags.” The order came after a previous executive order reducing the sale of single-use plastics on public lands.
“[T]he Biden-Harris Administration is announcing a new goal to phase out federal procurement of single-use plastics from food service operations, events, and packaging by 2027, and from all federal operations by 2035,” the White House said. “Meeting the new goal… will further agencies’ obligations under the [previous] Executive Order.”

There are plastic melamine dishware in my cabinet that has seen 5 generations. Same with the stoneware and china. The plastic is used daily and has been the most cost effective.
I saw the quote from him which made me chuckle, not just for the quote, but for the way he delivered it:
I think Canada’s Trudeau wanted to ban all single use plastic and the someone asked how would they package food in the Supermarket like Meats ,etc etc , back to the dark-ages LOL
Washing dishes is probably more energy intensive than using plastics.
And the logistics of washing them is quite complicated. Is Biden going to buy few millions of dishwashers?
I wonder if this will also have an effect on MREs? Don’t know why, I just like the brown plastic spoons.
My grandfather used melamine dishware.
I could have sworn liberals have been eating with pewter utensils for decades.
I work for the Atlanta Braves AAA team - Gwinnett Stripers.
There is no way in he!! that we could survive without plastic utensils. We have already done away with straws and lids.
“Wow. A REALLY major issue.”
Agreed.
I like the idea because I don’t like single-use non-biodegradable materials filling up our junkyards.
Also, plastic cutlery, especially the cheap stuff, breaks easily.
Boy - that problem was right up there at the top of my list of concerns...sure glad the WH is on the ball.
Let’s see the face of the genius who came up with it.
Don't go there. New "efficient" dishwashers take three hours to run a load. The cycle washes and washes with the same little bit of water.
The company I work for is really into the environment/climate change scam.
In our lunch area, they replaced the plastic spoons, knives and forks with ones that were made out of plant-based materials.
When they did, my first thought was “Awww, these things will snap apart easily”. But truth be told, they are pretty sturdy.
Anyone who has been to the ocean beaches can confirm that the most often seen piece of garbage is shoes.
Biden should step up to the plate and do something to help the planet.
Ban shoes now!!
It the right, and left thing to do to stop plastic pollution!!
👀🤦🏻♂️
LOL, silly you!
You don’t need utensils to eat a Cricket-Crunch bar.
You don’t need a knife and fork to eat a bug.
The alternative... Wood?
So lets chop down trees (which breath CO2) and make cutlery, grocery bags, etc. How does reducing the main lifeform that eats up CO2 help the environment? Whatever happened to ‘save the trees’?
These people are nothing less than corrupt money grabbing politicians... Enriching their friends, regardless of the harm they cause with their ‘green agenda’.
Don’t forget the millions of gallons of water they make us use that they also make us pay for to wash garbage so they can call it recycling
How about phasing out federal departments to help save the planet?
