A large part of Scotland has sought to separate from the UK.
Northern Ireland, never part of Great Britain, is now majority Catholic, and there are hard/soft border problems because of Brexit. In 1971, the Brits initiated internment against suspected members of the IRA or offshoots thereof. People were picked up on suspicion, thrown in prison without charge or trial, and held until someone decided to let them go. It took a lot of separatist leadership off the street. The net result was to recruit an army for the separatists.
A joke I picked up in 1981 was how to identify the Irish bus driver in London. He was the one with a shamrock in his turban. Fast forward fifty years. The PM was Indian, selected by the party PTB.
