The neonatal unit where Lucy Letby worked suffered an outbreak of bacteria lethal to babies, a leaked risk report shows.
In August 2023, Letby was convicted of the murders of seven newborns and the attempted murders of six other infants. A retrial in July also found her guilty of the attempted murder of another child.
Since the conviction, numerous scientists, statisticians and doctors have expressed their concern about the evidence presented to the jury regarding shift patterns, medical conclusions and the standard of care at the Countess of Chester.
It has now emerged that at the time when infant mortality rates spiked at the Countess of Chester hospital between 2015 and 2016 – the years in which Letby was convicted of killing the infants – the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa had colonised taps in the nurseries of the neonatal unit, including intensive care.
Pseudomonas is known to be lethal to vulnerable babies. In 2012, a premature baby died and 12 others needed treatment at Southmead Hospital in Bristol after an outbreak of a water-borne bacterium.
Three premature babies also died after contracting the bug at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital in Belfast January 2012. In that case, sink taps were found to be the source of infection. A baby had died from the same infection six weeks earlier in Derry.

She very well may be innocent, and science should be followed and determine guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or innocence. ALL hospitals and nursing homes are incubators for super bugs by their very nature of the facilities practices of cleanliness. Bacteria and viral develop by exposure to cleaning agents, medications, etc an immunity usually unseen outside a healthcare facility environment. Staph for example can go through a nursing home like wildfire. While healthy workers are at far less risk they can still just by handling things help spread it. Believe it or not even YB is alive and well. I worked in a facility in 1085 that had active TB patients
The little I’ve seen on this case in articles has always seemed confusing. Nearly every photo of Lucy Letby I’ve seen, shows her as a fairly attractive, smiling young woman.
I’ve yet to see the ‘other’ Lucy. She must have a Jeckly- Hyde split going on, to have fooled so many in the medical profession, IF that’s what happened.
If this is not what happened, then who would work so hard to frame her as a Mad Murderess of infants? If this is not what happened, why hasn’t her defense made that case? If she is not guilty, her reputation and career are sure to be in ruins, at least in England.
It isn’t just the Media that has a gaslight machine...
“She very well may be innocent, and science should be followed and determine guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or innocence.”
I guess you are not aware of the high levels of insulin in the babies, her falsification and destruction of records ...
1085? What's your secret of longevity?
1985 LOL The place I worked at was a nursing home which had previously a decade or two before been a TB treatment facility. I worked in maintenance not with the patients.
Disappointing.
“She must have a Jeckly- Hyde split going on, to have fooled so many in the medical profession”
A lot of people knew. More than one swept it under the rug.
I had a nursing home nurse tell me my sister was Diabetic because her blood sugar was high at the hospital. When the body stresses sugar can elevate. I asked the nurse how her sugar had been since then she said fine. I said then leave her be and let her eat regular meals. Then nurse was upset I was bringing in a couple burgers and fries to her twice a week. My sister had Stroke induced Dementia why did it matter anyhow?
I haven't followed this article my first time even hearing of it. I'm just wondering if she was simply the unknown to her "Host" or carrier.

These were instant collapses. Not infections.
A lot of people aren’t sure about this we want to believe in the justice system you see but there are a few journalists and politicians who believe it COULD be a wrongful conviction and her appeals should not be denied (in the US they wouldn’t be).
Government run = failure.
“but there are a few journalists and politicians who believe it COULD be a wrongful conviction”
She was the only one that was present for all 21 events.
She did not deny the evidence that babies had been injected with insulin.
She falsified and hid records.
I’ve read alot about the Lethby case. I don’t think she is guilty. She worked a lot of extra shifts and was assigned the sickest babies. The hospital was short-staffed and the doctors made several errors in diagnoses of the infants. She just happened to be on duty when many of the babies’ conditions took a turn for the worse.
The administrators wanted a scape-goat and Lethby was it.
Interesting review of the case here:
“A British Nurse Was Found Guilty of Killing Seven Babies. Did She Do It?”
Wow very interesting post.
There are many who feel this way/
There are a lot of concerns about the evidence given in the case often in wrongful convictions the evidence seems convincing on the face of it
If this was the US she would be allowed to keep appealing

She just happened to be on duty when ALL of the babies’ conditions took a turn for the worse.
The deaths followed her.
“If this was the US she would be allowed to keep appealing”
Her appeals are in progress. Also a retrial.
