TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Classroom Teachers Association is urging voters to say yes to a property tax increase measure that would increase teacher pay.

However, voters may not even have a say on the issue this November.

The Hillsborough County Commission decided to delay the vote until November of 2026. This prompted the Hillsborough County School System to sue the county over the issue.

Special interest groups being able to access the "ballot initiative" process in an election year to strong-arm non-property-owning voters into voting for a tax increase they won't have to pay for is a continuing disgrace in Florida. The leftists pushing "marijuana" and "light rail" have been at it for years, and now the leftist teachers union has gotten in on the act as well. More pay for so-called "teachers" who already get eight-week paid summer vacations and paid weeks off for spring and winter breaks while property owners have almost 75 percent of their property taxes already ear-marked for "state" and "local" schools. It's actually worse than just a disgrace.

Maybe they sweeten the deal by disbanding the union in trade for a pay raise? They’d end up with even more in their pockets by keep the union of out them.

Over the last few years Duval County Voters have approved 2 tax increases for schools.

The first was a half-cent sales tax increase.
The second was a 1 mill property tax increase.

The problem in Duval County is quite a few schools are in danger of being shut down because student enrollment has dropped significantly.

The reason student enrollment is dropping is the greatly expanded School Choice program in Florida.

It’s deja vu all over again. Back in the 90s the Ct teacher unions demanded that a % of the state sales tax be dedicated to education spending. Their reasoning was that teachers should be exempt from economic conditions. Economy good? Pay me more. Economy bad? Tough. Pay me. Teacher unions are like the mafia busting out a business.

Eff the public school system from the BOE to the liberal teachers. Give the parents a voice and maybe we’ll talk.

How about making the non-tax paying parents of students start putting some skin in the game? They get a free ride off the tax payers.

OK. You get a pay increase but have to work a 12 month year. How’s that?

NO!!! There is PLENTY of MONEY....it's WASTED by the DEPT. of EDUCATION! Make them tighten their belts!

Teacher's unions are ONLY for the teachers....they care NOTHING about the children they teach!!

PLUS, MOST public school teachers send THEIR KIDS TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS!

“Maybe they sweeten the deal by disbanding the union in trade for a pay raise? “

I say give every teacher a 10% pay increase and increase their pay based on merit. In exchange, the teachers can fund some of their own health insurance and 401k’s.

Like most of us do.

If you live there and love tax increase to pay for someone else’s Cadillac health plans, vacations, new cars, new homes. have at it.

Wisconsin passed a bill that halted all of these tax hikes, and teachers make more money now that they did before, all without their burdensome unions sticking their fat paws into the funds.

Can voters float a bill to tell the state to stop funding schools through taxes on homeowners who don’t have kids in state schools?

It should not be up to the “voters” to decide these matters, that is why we have a bicameral state government and why we have state senators and state house representatives.

Since we’ve been property owners in Florida for 40 years we have watched as every election year the state constitution gets shredded a little bit more and turned unrecognizable by “ballot initiatives” which have been “passed” by the unwashed masses and then automatically held as binding law on property owners with no pushback possible.

This kakistocratic “end run” around established government functions, coming as it does from the left (because they know their schemes would never pass state congressional muster) needs to be ended. But I don’t see that happening.

Build into the State Constitution over 50% of the state budget must go to education - it is never going to be enough.

Ok...so let the left abuse the system...sounds like a losing proposition for conservatives...hmmm....the left votes in enough fokk to stymie the duly elected representatives so that they are unable to do what most of the voters want and then the left conjure up some state proposition to bypass the representatives....and that’s acceptable? Sounds like we are losing. Gonna have to fight back.(legally, of course). Overwhelming homeschooling is one way to get rid of public school leftist indoctrination.

There are two reasons this works for teacher’s unions.

First, there are enough non-property owners who don’t think they have personal, financial skin in the game and don’t pay property taxes to pass these proposals.

Second, and I have seen this first hand, teachers indoctrinate their students to take the union’s message back home to parents to guilt and shame them into voting for it. These unions are extremely slimy in this regard.

You’ve all heard of the “Defund the Police” movement.

We need to start a nationwide movement to “Requalify the Teachers”.

In our schools, we have socialist teachers, communist teachers, pedofile teachers, teachers with 3rd grade arithmetic skills, teachers who hate America, teachers who are loyal to the Union first, gender affirming teachers, boys in girls sports is great teachers, boys in girls showers and locker room teachers, Lesbian teachers, sodomist teachers and on and on.

No raises until we take out the TRASH. “Requalification NOW”.
