Bring back CD players too
Be nice if they added short wave band too.
I drive 40-50,000 miles a year. Well over half is listening to AM.
But it *is* important to save the band and it's obvious why Maoists want to kill it.
CD players? C’mon! MP3s on your phone (or your car’s hard drive if it has one) is much better. Hundreds of songs vs dozens.
They aren’t “protecting” the installation of AM radios - they want to mandate it. Anyone could buy an aftermarket AM radio and install it if they desire.
I listen to AM almost exclusively. If I want music, I get it from my iPhone.
Bring back the 8-tracks.
AM doesn’t work well in electric vehicles. Too much electrical noise and static.
Get rid of electric vehicles, problem solved.
I’ve noticed within the last 5-10 years the AM static has gotten pretty bad most of the channels are un listenable. Certain intersections with stores and maybe even traffic signals with cameras make the AM channels produce a loud buzz on top of the already annoying static. What are causing these interference issues of late?
Make it a law? No. Automakers should not be forced by law. Is it right when it is something we want?
For years I listened to talk radio on am. I end up turning it off because almost half of it is advertising. They killed it. Not only are ads run between segments of the shows, but the shows themselves add more.
What I’d do, is shut it off when a slew of ads started running, and then forget to turn it back on.
What’s the point? The government should stay the hell out of it. If car buyers want AM, the manufacturers will give it to them.
Road traffic alerts are still via AM radio. Same with national parks, etc.
The point is big government and big auto, both hard left, intend to destroy conservative talk radio. Duh. Is this Free Republic?
I haven’t listened to a car radio 5 minutes total in 50 years. With the commercials, it’s just noise.
That said, I don’t mind 1 more reg out of thousands that government places on vehicles. So, ordering the automakers for the reasons stated to continue putting a $50.00 radio in cars is ok with me. BUT, forcing automakers to do it for free is just socialism light.
My point is that I can’t find in the Constitution where it says the Federal Government has the authority to dictate to auto manufacturers what types of radios they install. The Government can f*ck off.
I don’t think cost is the reason; it’s trivial in the overall cost of a car. I understand killing talk radio, but what other reasons make sense? It’s just another bit of free choice being removed by gov’t.
Rush Limbaugh saved AM radio, but he is gone.
AM is dead.
I do not want gov’t propping up a dead industry.
