About homeowners insurance: I'm embarrassed at how long I went without increasing my coverage to account for the increased cost of rebuilding in the many years since we bought the house. I didn't think about it until I did the detailed analysis on financial pros and cons of going solar (which meant increasing my home owner's insurance). I'm fortunate nothing happened to our home during the years I had low coverage (due to inflation, even without adding solar).

I used to have time of use at my old house which was originally designed with all electric baseboard heat.
Anything, including “cold climate” heat pumps that are electric heat here in the Northeast are a killer on the wallet. That was 18 yrs ago.
Around here in BLUE People’s Republic of NYS, our utility prices have doubled and tripled since Bi-Dung, as we are all paying for competing with California in a race to the bottom to get to New Green Deal Utopia ™
