“ I sincerely doubt Kamala will be the democrat nominee.”

Good point, but it seems other possible candidates would rather wait four years.

” I sincerely doubt Panama will be the Democrat nominee”

I agree. I’m starting to get the feeling that possibly the tribe is coalescing around her because Biden is going to be pronounced dead any day now and they need to buy time to figure out what to do. Things are starting to go sideways.

I think the Dems are stuck with her.

1. No one on Earth could — in three weeks — (a) get a campaign organization going, (b) get donors in line, and especially (c) become popular enough with minority voters that they’ll tolerate passing over the first “black woman” to run. Whether she qualifies as “black” is immaterial: the only thing that matters is how she is *perceived* by black voters. If they perceive her as black, then for all intents and purposes she is.

2. Too many minority leaders have already jumped behind her. Their message is clear: the leadership had better not pass her over if they don’t want a rebellion on their hands. Biden chose her for minority insurance and now it’s biting them in the butt.

3. There’s a real footrace going on as we speak for people loyal to Harris to jump behind her before anyone else can gain momentum. They’re clearly trying to make widespread support for her a fait accompli.

4. Pelosi endorsed her today. She can see the writing on the wall: the horse has already left the barn.

There are two wildcards:

1. Obama. He hasn’t endorsed her. He knows she’s a terrible candidate, but it would be a tremendous roll of the dice were he to try to be kingmaker and choose someone else. Will black voters grudgingly defer to his judgment or will they call him a sellout? No one knows the answer but I have no doubt they will be running internal polls this week to try to answer it.

2. Stacey Abrams. In the Dem party, it’s politically impossible to pass over Harris at such a late date unless it’s for another black woman. I can see some Dems pointing at Abrams as a way to try to pull Georgia away from the GOP. It comes down to her negatives. Does she turn off too many Independents? I wouldn’t be surprised if someone ran some quick, quiet polling to investigate the possibility.
