Yes, I would rather win the war than lose the war if it comes to that. And you could make a utilitarian argument that a few assassinations are better than widespread war. But that is an argument that is deeply corrupting and may have already facilitated the attempt on Trump’s life.

So don’t try to sell sly and deniable references to retributory murder at the convention - the unifying convention. And I’m not saying that’s what they have intended to do.
