Why did Trump forgive J.D. Vance? It shows a remarkable level of confidence from Trump that he’s chosen the man who once called him ‘America’s Hitler’

It shows a remarkable level of confidence from Donald Trump that he’s chosen for his running-mate the man who once called him “America’s Hitler.”

J.D. Vance, the thirty-one-year-old junior senator from Ohio, made the private comment in 2016, as he rose to fame off the back of his autobiography Hillbilly Elegy. The book recounts what it was like to grow up in a deprived rust-belt town, where his family and neighbors had “no college degree” and “poverty’s the family tradition.” Vance escaped by joining the US Marine Corps, which included a tour in Iraq. Once home, his degrees from Ohio State University and Yale took him to California, where he worked for the entrepreneur and Republican-backer Peter Thiel, who is reported to have arranged the first meeting between Vance and Trump.

Vance wasn’t just establishing himself as an author. He was starting to make a name for himself politically, too, as a never-Trumper who thought the president was “reprehensible,” an “idiot” and “cultural heroin.”

Six years later, Vance successfully ran for the Senate in Ohio as a MAGA-affiliated candidate. He became one of the former president’s biggest supporters, defending his actions on January 6 and repeating Trump’s claim that the 2020 election “was stolen.” In his speech at the Republican National Convention last night — his first as the vice presidential nominee — Vance described Trump as “America’s last best hope to restore what, if lost, may never be found again.”

What changed? In an interview with the New York Times earlier this year, Vance described the “complete overreaction,” after Trump’s 2016 win, to the mere suggestion that the president might, sometimes, have a point. By the 2020 election, Vance’s vote for Trump was a protest vote against being “policed in what we think and what we say.”

Fortunately for Vance, Trump can be forgiving towards those who repent and do penance. Humiliation is part of the punishment. “J.D. is kissing my ass,” Trump told a rally of Ohioans in September 2022. “Yeah, he said some bad things about me, but that was before he knew me and then he fell in love.”

Despite their past differences, Trump and Vance are now thought to be politically aligned. Joe Biden described Vance as “a clone of Trump.” Yet there are some notable differences between them: Vance is a devout Catholic convert, whereas Trump could not name his favorite verse in what he says is his favorite book, “the Bible.” Their biggest differences, however, come down to extremes. On policy, Vance tends to out-MAGA Trump.

While Trump is vague on the extent of his support for Ukraine, Vance has called for an end to the war, which would cede territory to Russia. “I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine,” he said in 2022. Vance wants the resources that are flowing to Europe to be diverted to America’s borders, as well as towards Taiwan — a move, he thinks, that could stop China invading.

Vance goes further on the economy, too. For all of Trump’s protectionist rhetoric, the crux of his economic agenda in office was broadly laissez-faire: a combination of lower taxes and market liberalization, with the odd Trumpian threat of a trade war thrown in to keep China and Europe on their toes.

If Vance gets his way, tariffs are the future. He seems relaxed about price rises (which he thinks are exaggerated) and tax hikes, so long as immigration is curbed and wages rise. His answer for filling in budget deficits is not to force America’s unemployed back to work but to entice them. The Republican Party hopes Vance’s economic outlook will appeal to trade-union voters. This week the head of the Teamsters Union — which represents 1.3 million workers — spoke at the Republican National Convention for the first time in history.

Vance may be a poster boy for the American dream, journeying from absolute poverty to Silicon Valley, to Congress. Trump has selected him as VP to highlight a different journey: Trump-naysayer to MAGA-enthusiast.

The Trump-Vance ticket is Trump’s way of showing off his unprecedented level of power over the Republican Party. In 2016, he chose Mike Pence as his VP to reassure its traditional wing. That’s a concession he doesn’t need to make any more. With Vance’s nomination, the MAGA takeover of the Republican Party is complete.

Trump has a history of making bad staff choices.

Watch this video in the link below and see if Vivek doesn’t have the blueprint for the future of America.

Why Vance instead of Vivek?

Maybe because Vance rogered up and said that he was wrong about Trump.

You are allowed to admit to being wrong. More people should try doing it. It's better than doubling down on being wrong.

A Loving and Purposeful God is in Control

July 19, 2024 | Sundance

All praise be to God.

Everything previously written is accurate, eerily so.

Dr Ben Carson was not a consideration for VP due to his physical condition. Ben Carson is literally too frail, physically incapable of being considered for VP. He’s really aging quickly. It is very obvious in person, not on media. He has exactly the perfect mindset but is physically incapable.  Pray for Dr Carson.

President Donald Trump is focused on winning the 2024 race, whatever it takes. Only focus = November.

The principal saw JD Vance as the best shot to unite the clans and strategically ward off the incoming age issue – which will be created by Newsom potentially replacing Biden. [Very strong potential]

Clans include factions of billionaires.

Unite Clans. Win in November. Use Vance as a tool toward that objective. Then manage him from 2025 forward. That’s it. Nothing more. He knows.

Barron was not at convention.

The queen is the strongest chess piece and guards the king.

Pray for them.

The Trump campaign announced in May that Barron would be a Florida delegate at the RNC convention, alongside siblings Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany. But Melania Trump quickly issued a statement saying their youngest son was unavailable. [LINK]

Love to all.

Fwiw , I thought Trump was a fraud in 2016. I liked everything he said, it thought he was a NyC liberal playacting.

It was literally the incessant media attacks (and his actual policies and performance) that converted me from a skeptic to a hard core Trumpster.

So I get where Vance comes from on this.

“If Vance gets his way, tariffs are the future.”

With a 25% tariff, consumer prices might rise 25%.

I would prefer a restricted/blocked currency.

ICE engines made and assembled in the USA might be swapped for auto parts made in Mexico.

Microprocessors made in the USA might be swapped for PCs made using some of those microprocessors and Chinese-made accessory parts.

$10 billion USA microprocessors -> China
$10 billion Chinese PCs($5 billion of those microprocessors+ $5 billion Chinese PC parts & assembly work) -> USA

The USA would no longer be a SWIFT participant.

So I get where Vance comes from on this.

I wanted Trump to quietly disappear after the midterm debacle of 2022.

But the Left just wouldn't leave the poor guy alone. Honestly, it were the baseless and merciless lawsuits that pushed me back into his corner. I loathed these people with every fibre of my being and did not want to see them win.

Now today, I can't think of anyone more ready to take the fight forward and crush the Left than Donald Trump and JD Vance. And after last Saturday, even more so.

Covered visa categories include those for visitors for business or pleasure and exclude those for foreign government officials and crime victims. The bill provides that a covered nonimmigrant who overstays the term of their visa forfeits the full bond, is subject to removal, and is ineligible for any lawful immigration status (including adjustment of status) for at least 4 years and up to 12 years. Forfeited amounts may be used solely for detention facilities for non-U.S. nationals (aliens under federal law) and international transportation for non-U.S. nationals ordered removed from the United States.

The bill specifies that DHS, in implementing this bill, may only issue rules regarding (1) the collection and retention of bonds and cash payments, (2) the notification of the Attorney General regarding a nonimmigrant’s failure to timely depart, and (3) preventing the circumvention of the bond requirement.

Maybe because of this from 2022:

“I regret being wrong about the guy,” Vance said about Trump several days later on the campaign trail. “I think he was a good president, I think he made a lot of good decisions for people, and I think he took a lot of flak.” He later added: “He’s the best president of my lifetime.”

Exactly.

If all the Trump-hating voters suddenly decide they were wrong about Trump, that would be a good thing, right?

But half the FReepers here would not welcome them aboard the Trump Train.

That is just stupid - and Trump is not stupid.

I say all aboard the Trump Train and stop giving people hard time about things they thought eight years ago.
