Cognitive dissonance creates amazingly irrational behavior, and you cannot talk people out of it with clever reasoned explanations. When their identity is based on "liberal" dogma, they will just keep doing what they do until they cannot do it any longer. "Facts" and "Reality" count for almost nothing.
It is an object lesson for us. We can laugh and sneer at them and ridicule them. They deserve all of that.
Let us not fall into the same traps.
