Only one legitimate reason exists why they would not be releasing the obvious details/information, and that is if it was suspected another person/persons are involved.

What if the SS uses a certain transmitted frequency to identify themselves and that is the reason he carried a transmitter?
What is they also use certain encrypted channel on cell phone and his was tuned into theirs?
What if he had access to the original security plans which showed their was a major failure to exploit?
What if all this was revealed to him as a “deep throat” type who groomed him?
