One of my most vivid memories of the Reagan assassination attempt in 1981 is when SS agent Timothy McCarthy, wearing a light blue suit, stepped in front of the president as he was being pushed into the car and took a bullet in the gut.

He bravely did what he was trained to do and may well have saved Reagan's life that day. Had Agent McCarthy not intercepted the shooter's bullet, the Soviet Union might still rule much of the world today.

And it turned out that McCarthy was a democrat, IIRC.
