I do not know the “why”, but I do know it does. Not just because a weapons training expert told me so, not just because those discussing the 5.56 trajectory shows it, it’s because my own shooting proves it.
A few hours ago I zeroed a weapon in at 50 yds. I got three bullets to print in an area the size of a quarter dead center on the target’s bullseye.
Then I shot at the 100 yd target, aiming for that bullseye. The center of that shot group was 2.5 inches above the bullseye that was aimed at. In other words the 55 grain projectiles printed 2 1/2 inches above the point of aim meaning they gain in elevation 2 1/2 inches to do that.
But, was the barrel level?
Were the targets level with the barrel?
The graphic just above your reply shows why a bullet apparently rises - the barrel is NOT level to the ground - but slightly tipped upward.
