The BBC has excellent coverage of this. They used an overhead view to show that the shooter was on a roof +/- 130 yards ninety degrees off to Trump’s right. I’ve seen the video of the event several times, and just before Trump grabs his ear, he turns his head to address the crowd on his left. Based on the blood spatter across his right cheek and lip, the bullet cut though Trump’s right ear from behind. Had he not turned his head just when he did, the shot may have hit him behind the temple.
