For very good reasons. The people who wrote those documents were well educated in History. Many of them were taught Greek and Latin, and knew the differences between Athenian democracy and the Roman and Dutch Republics. They were deeply aware of what Democracy invariably leads to and that it had to be avoided. The cliche is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

Well start with Article 1 Section 4. It talks about an election.
