A larger Mag 6.4 earthquake tripped offshore of Seattle WA last night.
It is the latest in a small swarm of Mag 4, Mag 5, and now Mag 6 earthquakes that began two days in the Cascadia Fault Zone that runs from British Columbia south to Northern California.
The Cascadia Fault is regularly hit with Mag 8 (average interval 350 years) and occainsional Mag 9 (interval about 580 years) earthquakes. The last very large killed thousands of native Indians up and down the Washington and Oregon coastline in January 1700, and hundreds more in Japan from its tsunami waves.
Just what we don’t need...
Although it is a much different type of fault, I’ve always wondered of the big New Madrid quakes of 1811-12 were preceded by a ramp up of smaller quakes? I’ve never seen anything about that in the literature. (I’m in the region, which gets small quakes frequently.)
Climate Change.
Erfquakes increasing.
Sacrificing some ICE powered vehicles on the steps of the Seattle City Hall may mollify the Gods of Gaia.
I’d rather sacrifice Greta Thunberg to a Volcano.
I am slightly south and east of you. Have felt Mag 2 and Mag 3 earthquakes in middle TN, north AL, north GA.
Concur - I have not heard about or read of oral reports of earthquakes other the New Madrid TN quake. South Carolina church bells were rung.
Thanks for that link. Very interesting.
At least the filthy streets will finally get a thorough washing when the tsunami sweeps through.
It's actually long overdue - the fauld has been stuck quite a while, like the southern San Andreas fault.
I read where Lewis and Clark were told by the natives of a great flood that wiped out villages and killed thousands. They assumed the indians were talking about the Noah flood, but it was the tsunami 100 years earlier.
Whent his thing slips it is going to be the biggest disaster in US history and it is imminent.
Yes. That deadly quake in Jan 1700 was the one recorded in Japanese tax records “No rice (taxes) collected from this year’s harvest. The village was destroyed.”
On average the next Mag 8 or Mag 9 is due now.
If a tsunami hit the west coast would Trump as POTUS be obligated to help in ways other than medical/shelter? Think of how the left reacted to Bush after Katrina.
I am in north central Indiana but there are several small fault lines here that, if the New Madrid goes off, will go off and cause damage here as well. I've even felt tremors here over the past several years, small ones of course. Nothing like I felt when I stationed on Guam back in the 1980's. Those were fun watching my keyboard dance across my desk. The island never tipped over though. :-)
A swarm of gnats under california?
Nuclear bomb might halt it.
Much as some like to deny it, the west coast is still America and populated by Americans. So yeah Trump and Congress would be required to do and supply what was needed, unlike Brandon’s response to Hawaii.
Galveston is a good example-100 years ago. No help. They recovered. Think FEMA trailers going to waste on the parking lot-New Orleans. 24/7 security guards. It might be better tell them to help themselves. How much help did Obama offer Texas in their tornadoes? The difference would be the MSM reaction-predictable.
Dear Mama Nature,
If you’re about to bust yer girdle, Mama, would you please hold off until Trump is back in office? We’d really appreciated it.
Sincerely,
The US
Good find! Thank for the Canadian earthquake link.
Ooopsie. There is an entire of smaller, very recent quakes from this swarm all the way up the BC coastline to Prince Rupert Island.
And this local swarm off of Seattle continued today. Now several dozen in the past seven days.
