>> If it’s hot outside, we can raise the price of water and ice cream.
Jobama be comin’ after y’all price-gouging beyotches!
My local Kohl’s has used them for years now for most of their items.
Good question. When I worked in a grocery store, outsider the weekly sales, any mid-week changes generated a increase/decrease price report.
Some price maintenance clerks wold print it, stuff it in the dept. mail box, which was normally cheeked once a day around 8 - 10 AM, and just apply the changes which usually came down around noon. Only reason you would know was when the cashier supervisor called and asked to verify. The smart ones would print new signs, walk the store and deliver them all to the depts and you knew by the time they got back to the office, they would apply the changes.
I see the digital sings eliminating the issue of old signs.
All the techies pat themselves on the back for the wonders of the internet and electronics age.
I am a Luddite.
I am not a sinner over the above , none of which is my fault.
‘Dynamic Pricing’ coming soon to super markets.
Bingo. The lawsuits will be spectacular.
I work in the wine and spirits department for a large regional grocery chain and we have had electronic labels for about a year. One problem is that prices can be changed in a local store by corporate. Wine and spirit prices vary widely by state due to government regulations and due to deals offered by local wholesalers. Hence prices between stores will vary especially between different states. I have watched these electronic signs being changed by corporate actors without any knowledge of the product, the deal the store had with the wholesaler or local market prices. Someone in corporate looking at a spreadsheet thinks they can increase prices without knowing our wholesale cost. We had a wine on price decline at $9.99 that with our wholesale deal still gave us a 23% profit. I watched the shelf tag get changed to $14.99 which was above the average national retail price and above what a wine of that quality should sell for in our market. Fortunately our manager took corporate to task and stopped them from meddling with local prices.
I thought these electronic labels have been out for years. Guess they are going mainstream now.

I’ve never seen them where I am.
Start taking pics of the shelf price when you grab it.
You know what’ll happen...
So photographing every item I put in my basket to prove its price is different than the idiot cashier’s scanner will be of no value....or do I use the time stamp of the photo?
5% of the items are wrong. So what does the cashier do? Looks it up on their scanner tied to the same dang system as tge scanner!! Doh!
So....I walk back to the shelf, PEEL the sticker off the shelf, walk to the cashier and say.....here!
Or I photograph it if I remember 100% of the time.
They’re simply prepping for the Weimar Republic style hyper-inflation that’s bound to come sooner or later if western governments continue on their present course: in the time between to putting the item into the cart and getting to the checkout, the price will have gone up.
I often do that for what few items I purchase at Walmart.
Especially food items and yes, toilet paper
What’s cool is that the $4.89 pound of hamburger that was $1.99 under President Trump you can have a little laptop attached to your shopping cart.
A Max Headroom Joebama will be screaming at you how there’s no inflation and prices are actually dropping.
Then the laptop screen will show you a black guy with a beard wearing a sequined dress (this actually happened, see video below) and high heels and will say: “This is a woman!!!” - press “Yes” to be able to BUY your food.

Item is $4.99 on the shelf and when you get to the checkout it is $5.29
Now times that by millions of items a year and the stores will be making millions. You will have no proof unless you take a photo of the price on the shelf.
Maybe we just do auctions?
Hafta watch as they scan.
If it isnt the right price, ill delete it and let them put it back
Be a shame if those little digital signs got broken.
I do it for Kroger much more often. They’re even worse than Walmart when it comes to getting things wrong. I’ve almost stopped shopping at the one that is the closest to me. It’s gotten really, really bad there.
