When I was a boy we lived in a small apartment which had two S-type fuses... the type you screw in. A penny was a perfect fit behind the fuse. It would bridge the gap between the center part of the socket and the outside, held in by a blown fuse. Although, we didn't use it. And, the penny was made of pure copper, too.
Lately, I've been feeling that the 21st century is rolling out at a dizzying speed.
