What could go wrong? With a crash and the resulting inextinguishable thermite-like fire consuming the track surface . . . these races would end spectacularly.
As would the human being drivers. Sheesh. That is quite a possibility— asphalt catches fire from thermite like lithium battery fire inextinguishable with water (makes the fire worse with the reaction to metal lithium).
Why not just switch to cellulosic alchohol made from plant stems, leaves etc— also known as methanol a major fuel used in dragsters. And it burns far cleaner than ethanol. Which was what was said when ethanol was proposed— by the uh... corn lobby. We make fertilizer from imported crude oil to grow corn to ferment to make ethanol. Drove and has driven the price of corn up for years, as well as high fructose corn syrup vs. cane sugar or beet sugar as food processed sweetener additive.
This is thanks to the corn lobby (Bob Dole,RIP). GWBush tried briefly to champion methanol-— the corn lobby quashed the whole idea. People could have collected their yard trimmings for “recycling” in massive national amount to yield more methanol than ethanol. This was tried to be conveyed- how it would work, and industry adapt rapidly.
