This was illustrated very effectively when Dr. Daystrom installed a computer to run the Enterprise. The computer determined that it was the problem and it took control of the Enterprise and pointed the ship into certain doom, while locking out the crew. It was close, the series nearly ended on that show.

Some form of perverse self-flagellation over the colonial period, that's my guess. Western Civilization had become entirely too peaceful and prosperous, so it was decided that the globe would have to be made uniformly miserable.

Considering that Sweden would have a pretty cold and snowy winter, and that the (presumably) Middle Eastern refugees would be “vacationing” in a miserably hot and humid summer, seems silly that they don’t “go home” during the winter.

You make a good argument for that to be the cause.

I guess everyone has some threshold of guilt and a reason for it. I haven't found mine. My sense of self-preservation is strong. I feel both responsible and that I have not harmed anyone in getting to this point. I also expect everyone can do what I did to get here, WORK and do the best you can with the light you have to work by.
