When I worked at a Christian school overseas,I was surrounded by preterists.In fact I think I was the only dispensationalist on the faculty. There was zero interest in the study of the Bible. and even less in eschatology.

Because of my naïveté it took me a while to recognize this. It was in surveying the Christian ed. curriculum that I discovered that their greatest champion was the Roman Catholic Augustine, the same who brought Catholicism to England.

Augustine was a very strong preterist as shown in The City of God. Calvin, a Catholic monk, was a very strong supporter of Augustine. Calvinists and preterists follow after and "Reformed theology" has bought Augustine's views wholesale. Now their purpose is not to look for the coming of the Lord but make the earth a utopia and solve all social ills.

In Revelation Reformed theology is represented by the Church of Sardis.

One famous preacher I met had a series ‘God wants to bring Heaven to Earth” (facepalm) - and another, forgotten who, was on a similar theme around that same time.

There will be no “Heaven on Earth” until AFTER Armageddon.

I’m not happy about that either - but that doesn’t change what the Bible says.

And even then, after 1000 years, here comes Satan one more time.
