Seems as though a judicious skilled use pf a baton would be sufficient to quell the fray anticipated. Was a killing gunshot really necessary? I'm a 2nd Amndmt believer, but dispatching an knife attacker with a nightstick or baseball bat ought do do the job for the LEO, particularly if he/she has backup.

Please correct my opinion if you think this is a wrong concept refarding level of force acceptable in such a situation. I do realize that currently equipped, most LEOs do not usuallu have a baton directly at hand, only a firearm.

(Unless anyone's life has become very cheap, that is.)

The use of a firearm against a knife is the best way to deal with knife wielding assailant advancing after being told to stop.

Center mass, keeping pulling the trigger till the advance stops and knife dropped.

Multiple verbal commands are useless, one shouted command loudly and then firing will insure that the attack stops or is going to be very difficult with your body springing leaks and losing blood rapidly.

tazers are an option for unarmed assailants MAYBE. But most female cops and donut munching , fat body male cops aren’t skilled or trained well enough for unarmed fighting.
