Having watched video of the Hajj for this year...I’d say three-quarters of the people walking are over the age of forty. Seemed like a lot of them were age 50 and over.
Depending on where you start....it can run from five miles up to eight miles. There’s supposedly Saudi ‘helpers’ passing out free water, but you’d have to sip water constantly at 110 degrees.
I seem to recall past hajj fatalities tended toward crowd crushing and trampling to death so this heat wave thing is a bit of a new twist for me. If this year the crowd skewed more elderly clearly not enough precautions were done. Hot and crowded doesn’t sound like much fun to me. Sounds a bit like a warmup for hades.
Well, it’s deadly heat. I know. I’m in Phoenix Az and we were doing 117 on that day.
