Small Southern towns go to war with mass influx of wealthy Californians amid fears they are bringing lefty politics and rocketing house prices
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 23, 2024 | Miles Dilworth

When California native David Klein moved to the quiet city of Gallatin, Tennessee, 25 years ago, he did so to escape the chaos of West Coast urbanization.

Now, he says, it feels like it is 'chasing' him.

Since the pandemic, an influx of outsiders from the Golden State and elsewhere have turned a once tranquil community into an overcrowded 'hell'.

"Klein said the number of three-story apartment blocks going up around the city was 'ridiculous'.

Gezzzz...You think it's the wealthy people from CA who sell their homes for big azz $$$ in CA are moving into apartments in other states?

Bewhahahahaha....

The greedy people in other states are selling their homes at fat inflated prices to Californians for big bucks. Those apartments going up are for those natives who live in those states because their fellow citizens in those states priced them out of their own cities and towns.

No offense but I’ve probably forgotten more about how this works than you ever knew.

Tell them flat out and straight up that you won't tolerate any of their leftist bs in your town.

Tell the we have enough bike trails, we don't want endless recycling nonsense, we own guns we love our American flag, we're conservative and God fearing and if that don't suit your pistol go back to the s**thole you ran away from.

That’s the evasive response I’d expect from someone that doesn’t’ seem to know what they’re talking about. C’mon.

Every venue, small towns, rural whatever, have experienced people coming in driving up prices. Even halfway desirable areas this has happened or is happening. And it’s not just those from CA doing it. It’s foreign nationals with big bucks, others with big inheritances etc. Some of these foreign nationals come in and are able to purchase chains of McWhoppers for example, then they bring in their entire large families to run the franchises because most don’t trust this system or gringo. Those families buy lots of houses too, sometimes with cash to avoid the corrupt banking system here.

The truth is millions of people living in S.California got screwed too because those CA home prices y’all read about? Those super inflated prices drove most all of the natives out of their own home towns. The towns they grew up in as kids, they couldn’t afford to buy a home in. Trust me here. It’s happened to millions of them. It was common for people to commute 140 miles a day in S.CA because they had to buy a home 75 miles away from LA due to being priced out of where they once lived.

Again, the article. This isn’t about people moving in one-for-one and willing to pay more for the same house. This is about converting farm land into multi-unit dwellings and jamming multi-unit dwellings wherever they can fit, filling them with Californicators, and driving up taxes for everyone.

Still being evasvie I see. Right from the article since you like to refer to it.

""But their migration to smaller Republican enclaves has upset tight-knit neighborhoods who are fiercely protective of their communities.""

That's not farmland. They're talking about existing neighborhoods.

""Residents of Eagle, a small town in Idaho, have complained that hundreds of West Coasters were bringing 'liberal baggage' to their community.""

I've been to Eagle Idaho neighborhood 2 times. How about you Yoits? It's an area of very nice existing homes. Not farmland or open undeveloped land.

Are we only allowed to discuss what you cherry pick out of the article?

Why so evasive?

I see this is personal for you.

Did "the greedy people in other states are selling their homes at fat inflated prices to Californians for big bucks" make you an offer you had to refuse?

Locals giving you the stink eye because you're from California?

See how evasive you are? Stink eye?? You’re all over the place. How weak. You don’t know anything about me yet you make all these baseless implications?

I moved years ago and came out like a fat rat. I didn’t plan it, it just worked out the way it did. I almost felt guilty. Almost. I came from CA, so money was not a big issue regarding buying a home. Hello? Anyone home? Bewhahahahaha.

My dad built the first townhouse community in the Minneapolis area back in the 1970’s. I think it was 144 units, so small by today’s standards. He did his best to save a bunch of the old oak trees and keep the forested atmosphere of the site.

But he had a big job convincing the city of the project. He had to put up money for them to improve a road interchange 1/4 mile from his project. He had to do work off-site for rain run-off.

From the two main roads along the site you can’t even tell that there is a development back there.

Here in my suburb of Seattle they have built numerous condo buildings with 400 units each, with no parking (the upcoming light rail is supposed to be the way they travel - when it gets finished. Some day.) No major improvements to the roads. (Although they DID add a bike trail.) Etc.

There is talk of rezoning single-family home lots to be able to have 4 homes crammed on them. Of course our taxes have already gone up in our neighborhood due to the families of dear old grandma sell the family rambler at 1,600 sf with a nice yard to somebody who builds a 6,000 sf home with a 10x50 patch of grass in the front and back.

Although at least they are still just single family homes with a 3 to 4 car garage. Better than four mini-homes with no garages or driveways.
