It's been debunked.
It's a log easier to fake an image showing that the ship hasn't been hit. Just show a before picture and claim that it's an after.
Probably it wasn't hit, but if it comes into port and there are huge tarps covering part of it, well, it will be difficult to hide that from all cameras, so a cynic might say the deep fake warnings are an attempt to get ahead of the bad news. Or as the Clintons used to say "telling the truth slowly".
